Alejandro Hernández-Puértolas is the Founding Partner & CEO of Hotel Investment Partners (HIP), a company backed by Blackstone and GIC, and serves as a Member of its Board of Directors. HIP is one of the leading hotel owners in Southern Europe, with approximately 20,000 rooms across its portfolio.
Prior to HIP, he worked at Reig Capital Group (2007–2011), where he held the position of CEO, overseeing €2.6 billion in assets under management. Between 2003 and 2007, he served as Managing Director at MedGroup (the Spanish real estate investment platform of Soros and Perry Capital), managing hotel investments valued at €400 million. He began his professional career in the hospitality industry at Iberostar Group as Deputy General Manager.
He also previously served as a Board Member of SFL (Société Foncière Lyonnaise) and Loris Azzaro. Alejandro Hernández-Puértolas holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from the International University of Catalonia (UIC), an MBA from Jacksonville University, and completed the Stanford Executive Program (SEP) at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Sergio Carrascosa is Co-Founder and Chief Investment & Operating Officer of Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). He has over 25 years of international experience in the hotel and real estate sectors, with a strong track record in investment strategy, asset management, operational transformation and hotel repositioning. Throughout his career, he has led the investment, real estate and asset management strategy of a combined portfolio exceeding €8 billion in asset value, with presence in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy and Cyprus, spanning both upper-upscale and luxury hotel assets. He has worked closely with leading international and domestic hotel operators and brands, including Marriott International, Hilton, Hyatt, Barceló Hotel Group and Meliá Hotels International, among others. He has also overseen hotel repositioning and renovation programmes with capital investment in excess of €1 billion, executing large-scale asset transformations and brand repositioning across multiple markets. His experience also includes working with institutional investors, private equity funds and family offices on acquisition, transformation, asset management and divestment strategies.
Prior to co-founding HIP, Sergio served as Head of Hotels and Real Estate Assets at Reig Capital, where he was responsible for the investment, development, construction and management of the group's hotel and real estate portfolio.
Between 2003 and 2007, he was Director of Asset Management at MedGroup Hotels, the Spanish investment platform backed by Soros Real Estate Partners and Perry Capital, where he oversaw the asset management strategy and performance improvement of a diversified hotel portfolio comprising both urban and leisure hotels.
Sergio holds a degree in Business Administration from ESADE and an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business and HEC Paris. He also completed the Real Estate and Hotel Investment Program at Cornell University and is a member of the European Council of HAMA (Hospitality Asset Managers Association). He is a regular speaker at leading hospitality industry conferences, including IHIF, the Resort & Residential Hospitality Forum (R&R), HOFTEL and other international hotel investment and real estate events.
Montse Rius is currently Chief Corporate Officer at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). With over 15 years of experience, she started her career in the Corporate Finance Department at Ernst & Young and signed up later for the Corporate Finance Department at Grupo Financiero Riva y Garcia. During this period, she executed M&A deals at the private market, also rights issues, IPO and delistings in the public market and advisory to Joint Ventures set-ups. She was focused on real estate and mid-market transactions.
She is also been president of the Urban Land Institute of Barcelona from 2018 to 2021 and nowadays she belongs to the Executive Committee.
Montse Rius holds a degree in International Trade from Higher School of International Trade at Pompeu Fabra University. She took a course on “Business Analysis & Valuation” and another on “Global Macroeconomic Challenges” at the London School of Economics. Also, she did a Postgraduate in Corporate Finance at ESADE Business School. In 2009, she took the course “Corporate Restructuring, Mergers & Acquisitions” at the Harvard Business School. Additionally, she was teaching Corporate Finance at ESADE Business School for 6 years.
Andrea Schröder is the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). Prior to joining HIP in 2016, she worked at the international law firm Baker McKenzie for over 12 years, advising both national and international clients on the planning, negotiation and execution of complex transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments, corporate restructurings and corporate governance matters. In addition to her professional practice, she has been a lecturer in corporate, commercial and M&A law at various institutions including Pompeu Fabra University, ESADE and ISDE.
Andrea Schröder has also served as secretary to the boards of several companies and currently acts as Secretary of the Board of Directors of HIP.
Andrea Schröder holds a Law degree from Pompeu Fabra University and a Master’s degree in International Corporate Law from ESADE.
Luis Picas Asmarats is Investments Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). He has more than 11 years of experience in Investment Banking and has developed his professional career in São Paulo, London, Madrid, Barcelona and Mexico City. Prior to HIP he was an Executive Director at BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking, specializing in the Hospitality and Real Estate sectors, and leading M&A, Lending and Capital Markets deals in Spain and Mexico.
During the period 2008 -2010, Luis worked at Banco Santander. Luis was responsible for investing equity and subordinated debt in Renewable Energy Projects in Spain, USA, Brazil and Mexico and he also was the manager of a emission rights fund.
Luis holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from UPC and an MBA from IESE Business School and The Fuqua School of Business at DUKE.
Juan Pazos is Real Estate Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). He is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) with more than 31 years of experience in the real estate sector (8 years in the UK and 23 years in Spain).
He previously worked at Ardstone Capital Spain (2014-2018), where he held the position of Managing Director and managed 250,000sqm of buildable land for residential, commercial and hotel development. From 2007 to 2014, he was Real Estate Director at Reig Capital Group and was responsible for managing the group’s non-hotel assets as well as director of the Andorran office. From 2000 to 2007, he was Hotel Director with MedGroup, a Soros Real Estate Partners platform, where he was responsible for a joint venture with the Pierre et Vacances group wherein land was bought for the development of limited-service hotels and residential tourism projects (condo hotels). Prior to these positions, Juan Pazos was Investment Director at Filo SA, a real estate investment company owned by Deutsche Bank and Canadian Ivanhoé Cambridge group, in addition to Director of Valuations and Investments at CBRE and Senior Surveyor in Corporate Recovery at GVA Grimley (UK).
Born in Great Britain, Juan Pazos earned a BSC Honors degree in Urban Land Management in 1989 from Liverpool’s John Mores University in England.
Luis Rullan is Managing Director of Business Development & Feasibility at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP), where he joined in 2015. After several years as an asset management associate, he was promoted to the role of Business Development Director, where he led the transformation, repositioning and conceptualisation of various portfolios. He subsequently became Senior Director of Asset Management, overseeing strategic assets in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. He has over 19 years of professional experience, having spent a significant part of his career in the hospitality sector. For four years (2007–2010), he worked as a strategic consultant at Europraxis Consulting (Grupo Indra) in its Tourism and Leisure division, participating in various projects with a particular focus on the development of mixed-use developments, hotel asset valuation, operator search, business plan preparation, and concept and master planning. He subsequently launched and developed an international venture before returning to Spain as Head of Export and Expansion for Africa, Central & Eastern Europe and Asia for a well-known consumer goods company.
Luis Rullan graduated from the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, where he completed a Master in Business Administration (MBA). He previously studied Business Administration at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and graduated in Tourism from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
Oriol Peña is Asset Management Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP) and has over 20 years of experience in Corporate Finance and Asset Management, with a particular focus on the hotel sector.
He began his professional career in the Netherlands at Deloitte, where he worked on various Due Diligence projects for hotel groups.
He subsequently moved to the FMCG sector, taking on various corporate finance roles and participating in the buying and selling processes of different business divisions between Sara Lee, Procter & Gamble and Unilever.
He also participated in the creation and launch of Next Urban Hotels, a company focused on providing consultancy services for urban hotels.
Oriol holds a degree in International Business Management from the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU International) and a Master's in Finance from London Business School.
Oscar Ramos is Asset Management Operations Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP), responsible for the group's entire asset portfolio in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. With over 30 years of experience in the hotel and tourism industry, he began his professional career at Grupo Canora and subsequently joined Meliá Hotels International (MHI), where over the course of almost 17 years he managed some of the company's flagship hotels in the Canary Islands, before becoming Operations Director for the Canary Islands and Cape Verde, overseeing 16 properties. In 2016, he joined Meeting Point Spain, part of FTI Group, as Chief Executive Officer, a company that operates 27 hotel and non-hotel assets in the Canary Islands and has an extensive network of DMCs across the world's leading tourist destinations.
Oscar holds a degree in Tourism Business and Activities from the University of Las Palmas and an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the Las Palmas Business School.
Joan J. González is Corporate Development Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). With more than 15 years of experience in corporate finance, he began his career in the Corporate Finance Department at Grant Thornton and Riva y Garcia Financial Group, where he took part in M&A and capital markets operations for several clients across different sectors.
Joan holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from ESADE and a master’s degree from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto.
Oriol Llobet is Finance Managing Director at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). With over 20 years of experience in corporate finance, he began his professional career in the Transaction Advisory Services department at Deloitte, where he participated in financial due diligence processes, company valuations and business plan reviews across various companies and sectors. He subsequently joined the M&A and Corporate Development department at Grupo Agbar (Suez España), where he participated in the analysis and execution of corporate transactions. Prior to his current role at HIP, he was a member of the company's corporate development department.
Oriol Llobet holds a degree and a Master's in Business Administration from ESADE and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Sergio Romero is Managing Director of Technology, Data & AI at HIP. In this role, he leads the firm’s technology strategy, driving digital transformation across the organization and advancing its data and artificial intelligence capabilities, while overseeing enterprise technology and cybersecurity.
With more than 20 years of experience across Financial Services, eCommerce and Real Estate, Sergio has built a career at the intersection of advanced analytics, data strategy and AI-driven innovation. He began his career at The Boston Consulting Group and subsequently held roles at CaixaBank—Spain’s leading retail bank with over 14 million customers—and at Vistaprint (Cimpress), a global leader in mass customization.
Since joining HIP in 2020 as Senior Director of Data & Analytics, he has played a key role in building the firm’s data platform and embedding data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Sergio holds degrees in Engineering and Statistics from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and an MBA from ESADE Business School.
Pedro Pérez-Abad is Head of Legal Asset Management & Real Estate at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). He has over 15 years’ legal advisory experience in commercial and private law and specialises in real estate and financial law. He previously worked at Ramón y Cajal Abogados, advising national and international clients on real estate, urban planning and financial operations in matters such as financing and financial restructuring, M&A operations, real estate asset operations, building law, due diligence processes and general commercial contracts. He was also CFO of the public-interest Fundación 2 de Mayo for the promotion of history and culture.
Pedro Pérez-Abad holds a degree in law from the ULPGC and a master’s degree in Corporate Legal Advice (LL.M) from the Instituto de Empresa (IE Business/Law School).
Daniel Vilalta is Head of Legal Corporate at Hotel Investment Partners (HIP). Before joining HIP, Daniel developed his professional career as a lawyer in the Legal & Compliance department of GE Capital, as well as in the Corporate & M&A departments of Garrigues and KPMG Abogados, where, over more than fifteen years of experience, he has advised Spanish and foreign companies (both listed and unlisted) on domestic and international M&A transactions, corporate restructurings, the incorporation of Spanish companies abroad, commercial contracting, real estate transactions, and legal due diligence processes for clients primarily in the consumer, industrial, media, and private equity fund sectors.
Daniel Vilalta holds a Law degree from ESADE (Indiana University Maurer School of Law alumnus), a Master's Degree in Business Law from ESADE, and a Master's Degree in Business Law from the Barcelona Bar Association (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona).
